It keeps me fit to pick up a model from the bottom of the hill, when the wind dies down and the height is not enough to come home. So, I sometimes envied the other model pilots who simply switched on an electric engine when in trouble.
Speedy is also my own design, and like always built in wood. The batteries and engine were from a cheap remote control car, and the foldable prop was a $3.00 buy from e-bay.
While on engine, the model was fast and gained height very quickly. Once the engine was off, the sheer weight of the model led to a glide that wasn’t to my liking.

Balsa wood construction.
V-tail and aileron control.
Wingspan of 1.5 m with a MH 30 airfoil of 7.00% thickness.
