Floods are a part of the natural processes that shape the earth. The regular floods of the mighty rivers on our planet provide whole ecosystems with moisture and soil fertility. River deltas are the richest agricultural areas on earth, and some of the largest cities are located on the flood plains.

Water can cause floods in several ways: rainfall, storm surge, global warming, tsunamis, broken dams.

Each cause is bad enough on its own. Sometimes factors combine, leading to an immense death toll and damage.
