In 1974/75, my wife and I were members of the Blumberg Gliding Club. Blumberg is a small town located at the south-eastern edge of the Black Forest, Germany, just north of Zurich International Airport.
We both trained on the Schleicher K7, “Roehnadler,” a two-seater wood/metal glider, with 16 m wingspan and an empty weight of 285 kg (see picture above, sourced from Wikipedia).
The first solo flights are usually done on the K8, a 15 m single-seater with an empty weight of just 190 kg (see picture below, sourced from Wikipedia).
