I hope I don’t upset too many Robinson pilots, but after flying the Iroquois for many years, the experience sitting in the Robinson was quite - well, have a look at this character to the right, then you know how I felt - as if someone strapped an engine and the rotor onto my back.
The Robinson R22 is designed and built as a cost-effective light helicopter for the private individual, small business man, pilot training, herd mustering, traffic reporting and police work. The engine and other components have been developed to proved low operating and maintenance costs.

Powerplant:
One 98 kW ((131 hp) four piston engine by Textron Lycoming, driving a two blade main rotor and two blade tail rotor.
Performance:
Max speed 180 km/h (97 kt), cruising speed 177 km/h (96kt). Max range with no reserves 385 km (207 nm). Carries the pilot and one passenger.
Weight and Dimensions:
Empty weight 379 kg (835 lb), max takeoff weight 620 kg (1370 lb). Main rotor diameter 7.67 m (25 ft 2 in), length 6.30m (20 ft 8 in), height 2.72m (8 ft 11 in).
